The most awesome action scene ever

A friend sent me this, I’m baffled by the awesomeness of it. The directors name is E.V.V. Satyanarayana, I think that explains a bit.

Sagmeister Paper Chair

Altough I like the concept, I can’t really see this as nothing more than an art piece, with no function at all.

  • Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion
  • Miike Snow – Miike Snow

  • The Decemberists – The Hazards of Love
  • Grizzly Bear – Veckatimest
  • Yeah Yeah Yeahs -  It’s Blitz!
  • Jay Farrar and Benjamin Gibbard – One Fast Move or I’m Gone: Kerouac’s Big Sur
  • Röyksopp – Junior
  • Silversun Pickups – Swoon
  • Metric – Fantasies
  • The Legendary Tigerman – Femina
  • Passion Pit – Manners

Mag+

This conceptual video is a corporate collaborative research project
initiated by Bonnier R&D into the experience of reading magazines on
handheld digital devices. It illustrates one possible vision for
digital magazines in the near future, presented by our design partners
at BERG.

Like I’ve written before, I’m yet to see an example of a tablet design that makes me want to say “I’m buying that!”. One the things that strikes me while watching these videos of gadgets that allow us to consume content is that what they do essentially is replace the handling of the reading experience with metaphors like scrolling the page or turning it. I’m not looking forward for a device that introduces interaction with the reading experience because of only one reason: it will be distracting. That’s what happens when I’m reading an article on a browser, there’s some much stuff going around the content: advertising, links, videos, share buttons, etc., that it makes it hard for me  to focus. That’s why I don’t like to read articles on browser, most of the times I just get distracted with something and end up only reading half of it.

So… I’m still looking for something that can blow me away. It doesn’t mean I didn’t like the design proposed in the video, I think it’s very slick, but I don’t see it at as a breakthrough, what they did was just capture the current trends of touch interaction and sticking it on a piece of cardboard. I think future tablets will have to be way more than oversizes iPhones, they will have to bring something that none of the devices where they sit between have today.
