Photoshop replacements?
Whoever said that there where free alternatives to Photoshop cant be serious! I have some work I have to do this weekend and I’m stuck on my laptop without Photoshop, so I’m going around using Gimpshop and Paint.Net and it’s driving me crazy. If you want to do simple stuff, you can manage with these tools, but if your purpose is more advanced stuff, you’re busted!
I like supporting open source software, but there’s still a long road for these tools before they can reach Photoshop’s shoulders.

What a load of bull. Please define what you tried, and what version, and exactly how it was a failure.
I’m sure it’s 60% habit to a tool, 20% likely an outdated GIMP, and 20% not being able to exploit GIMP’s richly extensible feature set.
On previous versions, GIMP is more than an excellent replacement for Photoshop if you only do digital work.
It seems the latest versions seems to close the gap on some colour definitions that lacked (like CYMK) but I’m no expert there.
If your problem is plugins… at least on Windows it is possible for GIMP to use Photoshop plugins, so it’s not even a fair comparison

If you have an apple laptop, you can try pixelmator…
