Starving the Robots is my space to blog about anything. It’s the place where I like to drop bits of content to later be shared somewhere else. I like to keep track of my online activity and social networks (specially Facebook) is particularly bad at helping you find things from the past.

robotism (ˈrəʊbɒtɪzəm)

  1. a machine that resembles a human and does mechanical, routine tasks on command.
  2. a person who acts and responds in a mechanical, routine manner, usually subject to another’s will; automaton.
  3. any machine or mechanical device that operates automatically with humanlike skill

Robotism is my alter-ego as a wannabe DJ. My intention is not to play records to an audience but to make mixtapes of songs I enjoy as if they were played live. The song selection is usually in the electro-indie-ish spectrum, sometimes I throw in some “classics” and some pop tunes. In the end I just want to have fun while I do it.

Older versions of Internet Explorer are a pain that doesn’t go away. Of course everyone tries to design and implement themes that work well on all browsers, but there’s always something that doesn’t quite work in an older version of Internet Explorer.

The ie-check plugin displays a message to the user informing that the version of Internet Explorer he/she is using is outdated. You can choose which IE version you’re supporting plus some options to customize the message and presentation.

WRA/YRN was a disco-dancing mp3-spinning duo from Lisbon I formed with Rui Gaspar between 2008 and 2011 after we decided to combine your common passion of making mixtapes for friends.

Old mixtapes available on request, there are still some floating around:

I love making mixtapes. I started doing them when I got my first boom box, it only had one deck so I used a cassette recorder to record and a vinyl record player plus the boom box to mix the tracks. Fun times! I wish I still had those old tapes, so many memories from those days! I continued making mixtapes throughout the years, shifting from cassettes to CDs to mp3s. Spotify made it a lot easier to share mixtapes with the world and I have fully embraced it. It changed the way I listen to music.

#boogiemaroto consists on playlists of songs that I find groundbreaking. It started as a Facebook joke but recently I decided to keep track of it and turn in to a fun side mixtape project.

Complete playlist:

Artsy/fartsy is a random artwork generator. I got inspired to do something that would generate random art based on a few parameters after working on some artwork for a friend’s music project. Artsy/fartsy uses Raphael to produce an SVG document that can be downloaded and altered for finer refinement.

Play with it or mess with it out on github.
