IllumiRoom is a Microsoft Research concept that extends the gaming experience into the surrounding walls. This is one step closer to the holodeck!
Oohhhhh, I like that colored tactile keyboard, it solves a problem that the iPad has yet to address: the ability to do actual work on a tablet! I just wish the device was a little slimmer.
I’m rooting for the success of Windows 8, the business market really needs to shift into something like this.
Ah.. a brand new phone operating system, based on the Zune and with integration with Xbox Live and major social websites. I’m actually quite impressed with the videos of the phone usage, Microsoft finally completely distanced itself from the desktop metaphor on the mobile experience, even more than other mobile OS’s like the iPhone or Android. It looks like something aimed at the regular phone user, with simpler UI and focused on common phone tasks.
Thumbs up for this move Microsoft!
Microsoft is really good at creating concepts, unfortunately the implementations always seem to lag behind (think of the Surface and the Origami project).
I could see myself using something like this, a device that is always with me, where I can sketch, compose and browse, fold it and throw into my bag. Can I do all of this with a combination of iPhone and netbook? You can, but sketching on an iPhone is kind of challenge, and netbooks aren’t really my cup of tea, there’s something about the size constrictions that make it really discomfortable for me. Plus. why do need a keyboard on a tiny device, a virtual keyboard is all I need, writing with a stylus is questionable, but it usefull for sketching.
Bring it on Microsoft, don’t let us down.
