I ignored Sigur Rós for quite a while, even though I’m one of those guys that always knows what’s going on. I knew about them, I saw them in magazines and listened to people talk about it, but it was until I saw the video for “Viðrar Vel Til Loftárása” that I realized how special they were. The video paralyzed me, I was blown away, with everything, the sounds, the delicate voice, the weird language, the video itself, it was stunning. I did not buy the record, I got it from somebody (I still don’t own it today, although it’s one of my favourites, if not my favourite) and I remember listening to it for the first my time, with headphones, in my room, and not doing anything else, just sitting back, and listening.
I remember it made me shiver from time to time, I was so focused on it, I loved it immediately, from the first to the last second. There’s no point in selecting one song, I love them all, that’s what a good record is like, every single song is perfect, you can’t point out one thing you don’t like, every single second, every single sound is perfect.
After listening to it got hooked up on Sigur Rós, listened to the first record, hated it, got my hands on a bunch of bootlegs that contained a lot of songs that would be later featured on ( ). It was released originally in 1999, but I only listened to it in 2002, I think, maybe it was a special time in my life and that’s why it made such an impression on me, I’m not sure, but for me, this is the perfect record. It’s timeless.
